Mníchova Lehota (until 1927 Slovak "mníchova lehota"; Hungarian Barátszabadi - until 1907 Barátlehota ) is a municipality in the northwest of Slovakia with a population of 1,226 (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Trenčín District , part of the kraj Trenčiansky .
geography
The community is located on the edge of the Trenčianska kotlina basin by the Turniansky potok , a tributary of the Waag . Immediately to the southeast is a low mountain pass called Jastrabské sedlo between the Inowetz and the Strážovské vrchy . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 260 m nm and is nine kilometers south of Trenčín .
history
The area of the village was first mentioned in writing in 1269 when it was part of the estate of the Neutra bishop . Before that, however, there was probably a monastery, which after 1200 probably belonged to the Order of St. John and was destroyed during the Mongol invasion in 1241 . On the other hand, there were wax systems due to its location on the trade route between Moravia and Neutra and mining towns in central Slovakia today as district name Stráže or Zadné Stráže evidence. The village was not founded until the time of the oligarch Matthäus Csák and was first mentioned in writing in 1439 as Monoh Lehota .
During the battle of Trenčín in 1708 the village burned down.
The inhabitants of the village lived mainly from agriculture and forestry, after 1918 also basket making. To this day there are quarries near the village, where dolomite sand and limestone are extracted.
