The three-storey building was built in the Swiss house style in 1892 and donated by the painter and ink manufacturer Eduard Leonhardi as a poor house. In 1994 the building was owned by the City of Dresden and the state of construction was “mostly good”. Today it serves as a residential building, guest house and shared apartment for seniors. The remains of an earlier mica granite quarry can still be seen behind the Schweizerhaus.
