Zamarovce (until 1927 Slovak and "Somárovce"; Hungarian Vágzamárd (until 1907 Zamaróc )) is a municipality in the north- west of Slovakia with a population of 1,141 (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Trenčín District , part of the kraj Trenčiansky .

geography

The community is located on the right bank of the Waag in the middle Waag valley in the shadow of the White Carpathians . The center of the village is at an altitude of 216  m nm and is three kilometers from Trenčín .

history

Zamarovce was first mentioned in writing in 1208 as villa Samar . The village belonged to the Zamarovský family . In 1828 there are 52 houses and 416 inhabitants. As in other places in the area, agriculture was the main source of income, up to the 19th century also viticulture, before the vineyards were destroyed by phylloxera . In modern times there was a landing stage for rafts that transported wood from the upper Waag valley. From the late 19th century to 1980 there were brickworks in the village.

From 1972 to 1990 the place was part of the city of Trenčín.
