Svinná (until 1927 Slovak "Svina"; Hungarian Bercsény - until 1907 Szvinna ) is a municipality in the north- west of Slovakia with a population of 1,570 (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Trenčín District , part of the kraj Trenčiansky .

geography

The municipality is located in the north-western foothills of the Nitrianska pahorkatina (part of the Slovak Danube lowlands ) and is traversed by the Svinica stream (also Svinnica , Bebrava river system ). The surrounding landscape is characterized by the Považský Inovec mountains in the west and Strážovské vrchy in the north. The center of the village is at an altitude of 248  m nm and is eleven kilometers from Bánovce nad Bebravou and 19 kilometers from Trenčín .

Neighboring municipalities are Neporadza in the north, Bobot in the northeast, Horňany in the east, Malá Hradná in the south, Veľká Hradná in the southwest and Trenčianske Jastrabie and Trenčianske Mitice in the west.

history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1439 as Zwynna and first belonged to the estate of Trenčín Castle and from around 1550 to the estate of Banowitz. On August 9, 1663 the village was ravaged by the Turks and burned to the ground. In 1828 there were 36 houses and 264 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture. In 1913 the neighboring village of Malá Neporadza (then in Hungarian Kisbercsény - until 1907 Kisneporác ) came to the municipality.

Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

population

According to the 2011 census, Svinná had 1,585 inhabitants, 1,474 of whom were Slovaks, four Czechs, two Magyars and one Pole. 104 residents gave no information in this regard. 1330 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, 17 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, six residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident each to the Evangelical Methodist Church, the Orthodox Church and the Czechoslovak Hussite Church; five residents professed a different denomination. 86 residents had no denomination and the denomination was not determined for 138 residents.
