Dolná Poruba (German Unterporub , Hungarian Bérces - until 1907 Alsóporuba ) is a municipality in the north- west of Slovakia with 799 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Trenčín District , part of the kraj Trenčiansky .

geography

The municipality is located within the Strážovské vrchy mountains on the upper reaches of the Teplička brook and lies in the upper part of the so-called Omšenie-Poruba furrow (Slovak Omšensko-porubská brázda ). The center of the village lies at an altitude of 420  m nm and is eleven kilometers from Trenčianske Teplice and 24 kilometers from Trenčín .

Neighboring municipalities are Horná Poruba in the north, Valaská Belá in the east, Čierna Lehota in the southeast, Šípkov and Slatinka nad Bebravou in the south, Omšenie in the west and Dubnica nad Váhom in the northwest.

history

Dolná Poruba was first mentioned in writing as Poruba in 1355 (at that time together with Horná Poruba) and was created in a forest clearing in the 14th century , so the first inhabitants were woodcutters. At first the village was part of the dominion of Košeca Castle , then it was owned by various noblemen, when serfdom was abolished in 1848, the owners came from the Illésházy family . In 1598 there was a mill and 33 houses in the village, in 1784 there were 90 houses and 876 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.

Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 808 inhabitants lived in Dolná Poruba, of which 793 were Slovaks and 8 Czechs . 7 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

757 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church and one resident each to the Apostolic Church, the Greek Catholic Church and the Reformed Church. 32 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 16 residents was not determined.
