Horná Poruba (German Oberporub , Hungarian Felsőtölgyes - until 1907 Felsőporuba ) is a municipality in the northwest of Slovakia with a population of 1,074 (December 31, 2019), which in Okres Ilava of, part kraj Trenčiansky lies.
geography
The village is located in the middle of the Strážovské vrchy Mountains in the upper, boiler-like part of the Porubská dolina valley . Above the village rises the Vápeč ( 956 m nm ), a limestone and Dolomite mountain, since 1993 a national nature reserve. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 402 m nm and is eight and a half kilometers from Ilava .
Neighboring communities are Košecké Podhradie in the north and east, Valaská Belá in the south-east, Dolná Poruba in the south, Dubnica nad Váhom in the south-west and Ilava in the west.
history
Horná Poruba was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1355 as Poruba and was part of the dominion of Košeca Castle . In 1598 the village had 27 houses, in 1828 there were 62 houses and 635 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture. In the 19th century there were two distilleries in the village.
The place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 1061 inhabitants lived in Horná Poruba, of which 1034 were Slovaks and 4 were Czechs . 23 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
972 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 6 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and 5 residents to the Old Catholic Church. 16 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 62 residents was not determined.
