Košecké Podhradie is a municipality in the northwest of Slovakia with a population of 1,059 (December 31, 2019), which in Okres Ilava , part of Trenčín Region is located.
geography
The village is located in the middle of the Strážovské vrchy mountains in the valley of the Podhradský creek ( Váh river system ). The municipal area of almost 37 km² is accordingly hilly to mountainous, with a small basin only in the southwest. The center of the village is at an altitude of 350 m nm and is eight kilometers from Ilava and 30 kilometers from Trenčín .
Administratively, the municipality is divided into the vilage Kopec (hist Hungarian. Tóthalom - until 1907 Kopec ), Malé Košecké Podhradie (hist Hungarian. Kaszakisváralja - until 1907 Kaszakispodhrágy ) and Veľké Košecké Podhradie (hist Hungarian. Kaszanagyváralja - until 1907 Kaszanagypodhrágy ).
Neighboring municipalities are Ladce and Beluša in the north, Mojtín and Zliechov in the east, Valaská Belá and Horná Poruba in the south, briefly Ilava in the west and Košeca in the northwest.
history
Before our era, today's municipality was the location of a settlement from the Hallstatt period .
The suburbs Malé Košecké Podhradie and Veľké Košecké Podhradie developed below the Košeca Castle, first mentioned in 1312, and were first mentioned together in 1397 as utraque Waralya . Kopec was mentioned as Kopech that same year . The history of these places is closely linked to that of the castle, which was the seat of a regional manor before it was razed at the beginning of the 18th century. In 1828 there were 45 houses and 321 inhabitants in Malé Košecké Podhradie, 113 houses and 800 inhabitants in Veľké Košecké Podhradie. The population lived mainly from forestry and agriculture.
The towns in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia and Slovakia. In 1975 the places Malé Košecké Podhradie and Veľké Košecké Podhradie, which had been separate since the 19th century, were united, in 1976 the place Kopec was added.

According to the 2011 census, Košecké Podhradie had 1045 inhabitants, of which 960 were Slovaks and two each were Magyars and Czechs. 81 residents gave no information in this regard. 870 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church and two residents each to the Jehovah's Witnesses and to the Evangelical Church AB; one resident professed a different denomination. 62 residents had no denomination and 108 residents had no denomination.
