Podlužany (Hungarian Bánluzsány - until 1907 Podluzsány ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 871 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Bánovce nad Bebravou , part of kraj Trenčiansky belongs.
geography
The municipality is located in the northern Danube hill country on the central reaches of the Bebrava , partially surrounded by the Strážovské vrchy mountains. The center of the village is at an altitude of 218 m nm and is five kilometers from Bánovce nad Bebravou .
Neighboring municipalities are Timoradza in the north, Ľutov in the northeast, Prusy in the east, Bánovce nad Bebravou in the south and Dežerice in the west.
history
Today's municipality was settled in the Copper Age, there was a settlement of the Baden culture here .
Podlužany was first mentioned in writing in 1295 as Polluzsan and belonged to the Uhrovec estate , later partly owned by the Zongor family . As the only place in the Uhrovec domain, Podlužany received town and market rights in 1496, but these were only revoked ten years later. At the beginning of the 18th century, Francis II. Rákóczi stayed in the local area during the battles of the Kuruzzi War near Trenčín . In 1828 there were 48 houses and 432 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture. In the 19th century, two distilleries and a sugar factory worked in the village.
Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
In addition to today's municipality, the place Zlobiny also existed earlier, which was mentioned for the first time in 1389, but was completely abandoned in 1828 except for a farm.

According to the 2011 census, 849 inhabitants lived in Podlužany, of whom 806 were Slovaks, seven Ukrainians and three Czechs. Four residents indicated a different ethnic group and 29 residents gave no information in this regard. 374 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 336 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, nine residents to the Orthodox Church, two residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident to the Old Catholic Church; one resident professed a different denomination. 67 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination was not determined for 59 inhabitants.
