Joe Joyce (* 19th September 1985 in London , England ) is a British professional boxer in the heavyweight division and currently undefeated. With the amateurs he competed in the super heavyweight division . He is trained by Ismael Salas and promoted by Richard Schaefer and David Haye .

Background and amateur career

Joe Joyce's career as a boxer is very unusual as he only started boxing in earnest in 2010 at the age of 25. However, he did some sports such as swimming, athletics, rugby and kickboxing before that. None of these sports but competitive sports. From time to time he also trained boxing during the semester break at his university, which he finally found so fond of that he joined the amateur boxing club (ABC) "Earsfiled" London and trained conscientiously with the coaches Sid Khan and Andy Stables.

Already in November 2011 he took part in the championship of Great Britain and won the championship title there in the super heavyweight division with a demolition victory in the first round. In April 2012 he was also English champion (ABAE champion) in this weight class with a points win over Nick Webb (38:25), a non-fight win over Rocky Broadway and a point win over Frazer Clarke (5-0 RS). In May 2012 he defeated Frazer Clarke in the championship of Great Britain again on points (37:36) and was again the title holder of Great Britain. In the English ABAE championship 2013 he did not take part because of the preparation for the European championship in Minsk.

In May 2012, Joe Joyce also won an international tournament for the first time. At the Boxing Belfast Tournament he won the final of the super heavyweight over Dimitar Kosanow from Bulgaria. In October 2012 he won the super heavyweight division of the Tammer tournament in Helsinki. He defeated Ross Henderson, Scotland, on points (21: 9), Martins Gavars, Latvia by breaking off in the 1st round and Con Sheehan, Ireland, on points (20:16). From November 2012 he played for the "British Lionhearts" as part of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) six fights against strong opponents, of which he won five.

In May 2013 he then took part in the European Championships in Minsk for England . In the super heavyweight division he defeated Milutin Stanković, Serbia (2-1 RS) and Mikhail Bakhtidze, Georgia (3-0 RS) on points. In the semifinals, however, he had to accept a technical knockout defeat in the first round against Sergei Kuzmin from Russia. He won an EM bronze medal with it. At the World Championships in the same year, however, he was eliminated in the first fight against Hamza Beguerni ( Algeria ) by knockout in the first round.

In 2014 Joyce won the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and in 2015 the European Games in Baku . At the 2015 World Championships in Doha , he won bronze after losing to Tony Yoka in the semifinals . On the way to the semifinals, he beat Mohamed Arjaoui , Morocco (3-0) and Ali Eren Demirezen , Turkey (3-0). In 2016, Joyce qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro by winning the European Olympic qualification tournament . He beat Məhəmmədrəsul Məcidov , Azerbaijan (2: 1). At the Olympics, he was able to advance to the final, where he was again defeated by Tony Yoka.
