Professional career

Stiverne turned pro under Don King in 2005 and won his first twelve fights by knockout, nine of them in the first round. In July 2007, he surprisingly lost prematurely to Demetrice King. In his following eight fights he was unbeaten again, including a draw with Charles Davis.

On January 29, 2011 he defeated Kertson Manswell (record 20-0) early in the second round and won the WBC International Championship, the WBC US Championship and the WBA Latin American Championship. In June 2011 he also won through tKo against Ray Austin .

On April 27, 2013 Stiverne defeated Chris Arreola unanimously on points. This made him a mandatory challenger to the then WBC world champion Vitali Klitschko . After Klitschko's resignation, Stiverne boxed against Arreola again on May 10, 2014 and won the vacant WBC heavyweight belt through technical knockout in the sixth round. In his first title defense on January 17, 2015, he lost the title after a unanimous point defeat against Deontay Wilder . After the fight, he was hospitalized and diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis .
