Erkan Teper (born June 18, 1982 in Ahlen ) is a German professional boxer of Turkish descent. He became European heavyweight champion in 2015 .

Amateur career

Erkan Teper started boxing at the age of 19 and has played 146 amateur fights with 130 wins and 2 draws. He was multiple Westphalia champion and West German champion, as well as two-time German team champion. In 2006 he became German runner- up after losing to Konstantin Airich in the final , and in 2007 after narrowly losing to Stefan Köber in the final . In the semi-finals he had won against Erik Pfeifer .

At the international level he won the Amber Gloves tournament in Kaliningrad in 2006 with victories against the Russians Sergei Suchankin and Sergei Pletosu. In 2007 he won the silver medal at the Chemistry Cup after being stopped by Kubrat Pulew in the final . He won another silver medal in 2007 at the World Military Games in Hyderabad, India .

At the European Olympic qualification in Athens in 2008 , he was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Cristian Ciocan , but still won the Bolivarian Alternative Games in 2009. He beat the Cubans Orlando Rabi and Luis Pons, as well as the Ecuadorian Jorge Quiñones, medalist of the Pan American Games 2007 .

Professional career

In 2010 he switched to the professional camp and fought among other things at Arena Box Promotion and Z! Promotion. His trainer is Oktay Urkal . He won his debut prematurely on September 4th against Marcel Zeller . In his further development phase, he also fought in the USA, Serbia, Turkey, Austria and Switzerland. He beat Jakov Gospić in the fight for the Mediterranean title of the WBC , the undefeated Timur Musafarow and the British Michael Sprott .

In June 2014 he defeated the also unbeaten Newfel Ouatah early in the sixth round and won the EU championship. In March 2015, there followed a unanimous victory over twelve rounds against Johann Duhaupas (balance: 31-1) and thus winning the IBF intercontinental championship .

On July 17, 2015, he received a European Championship title fight ( EBU ) in Ludwigsburg against the British David Price, who was under contract with Sauerland Event . Teper won in the second round by knockout and became the first German heavyweight European champion since Luan Krasniqi (2004) and the first to be born in Germany since Jürgen Blin (1972). At the beginning of December 2015, Teper resigned the title of European Champion (EBU), according to his own statements because of an injury, and renounced the title defense against Robert Helenius . Shortly thereafter, however , the BDB President confirmed press reports that Teper had given positive doping tests in both the European Championship fight in June 2014 and the European Championship fight in July 2015 . After the first test, he was banned for six months, but this was not made public.

On October 15, 2016, he lost just on points against Christian Hammer in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg . Five months later he lost on points against Mariusz Wach in Leipzig .

After victories over Davit Gorgiladze, Evgenios Lazaridis and Zoltan Csala, Teper went KO in September 2018 in the fight for the vacant IBF Intercontinental Heavyweight Title against Robert Helenius .

After the defeat, Teper and his coach Oktay Urkal separated. The new coach was Sükrü Aksu.
