Davy Cunningham
Davy Cunningham (born in Scotland before 1989 ) is a Scottish lighting designer who works on major opera houses.
Life
Cunningham first studied philosophy at the University of Stirling before devoting himself to lighting design for drama and opera . Cunningham has been responsible for the lighting design for over 250 stage productions worldwide. He is a laureate of the Bohuslav Martinů Society in the Czech Republic. In acting he worked for a number of productions in London's West End (e.g. for Ivanov or Much Ado about Nothing ), also for the Royal Shakespeare Company (for The Taming of the Shrew ) and National Theater in London, for Abbey and Gate in Dublin, as well as for The Druid in Galway .
In musical theater his first engagements also in London were: At the Royal Opera House Covent Garden , he took over the lighting design for Bohuslav Martinů's The Greek Passion , at the English National Opera for Manon Lescaut , Nabucco and A Mid Summer Night's Dream . An international career followed, which took him to the State Operas of Munich and Berlin , to Essen and Leipzig, to the Metropolitan Opera in New York, to the De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam and to the Theater Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, to the Opéra National de Paris (for Manon Lescaut ) and the Opéra de Monaco (for the Rosenkavalier ), as well as the Istanbul International Music Festival , during which he designed the light for The Abduction from the Seraglio in the Topkapı Palace . Cunningham was or is active at the following opera houses: Antwerp, Barcelona, Basel, Belgrade, Bologna, Brussels, Frankfurt, Gothenburg, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Lausanne, Los Angeles, Lyon, Mannheim, Montpellier, Nancy, Oslo, Sydney and Vienna.
Regular collaboration connects the lighting designer for more than 25 years with the Bregenz Festival , during the directorship of Alfred Wopmann began several joint productions with David Pountney included and during the directorship of Elizabeth Sobotka was continued.
