Konstantin Airich (born November 4, 1978 in Zelinograd , Kazakh SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former German - Kazakh boxer .

amateur

The 1.85 meter tall Airich was born in what is now Kazakhstan, but soon came to Germany, where his family settled in Mörlenbach-Weiher . There and in Bensheim he also began his career as a boxer. Airich played 99 amateur fights. In the Boxing Bundesliga he played for MBR Hamm , TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Karlsruher SC . In 2004 he lost in the semi-finals of the German championships in the heavyweight class against Stefan Köber and took third place. In 2006, after Sebastian Köber and Steffen Kretschmann switched to the professional camp, he was able to take the chance and became German super heavyweight champion.

Professional career

Airich then followed Kretschmann and also became a professional at Arena Box Promotion . After a hepatitis B illness prevented his professional debut in 2006, he played his first successful professional match in Milan on January 25, 2007 . On March 14, 2008 he was in his ninth professional fight in a draw against the Ukrainian Oleksij Masikin for the first time not victorious.

On May 30, 2008 Airich boxed in the Spanish Barakaldo near Bilbao against the Briton Danny Williams and lost after an extraordinary fight by technical knockout in the seventh round. After an initially good start, he was counted in the second round by the Spanish referee after a low blow to Williams, for which the Briton was simultaneously punished with a deduction of two points. In the third round Williams was counted twice while standing after Airich had hit heavily. In the course of the round, the tape on the Briton's left glove came off so much that he finally had to remove it completely himself, although in such situations it is otherwise customary for the fight to be briefly interrupted in order to have the secondate eliminate these problems . Subsequently, however, the fighting turned in Williams' favor; after the fight it turned out that Airich had broken his left hand in the third round. Still, Airich was credited with another knockdown at the end of the fourth round when Williams lost his balance after a blow and slipped. In the fifth round, Williams was deducted another point for looking up. Then at the end of the lap he managed to precipitate, which, however, was also favored by a slip, since Airich backed off to the ring ropes during the exchange of blows and left the ring floor with his right leg. Finally, Williams managed to knock down again in the sixth lap, whereupon Airich's promoter Ahmet Öner , with a remaining lap time of about 1:40 minutes, went to the timekeeper's table and rang the bell. However, as Williams prevailed more and more against the exhausted and battered Airich, Öner then threw in the towel in the seventh round, which meant the early victory for Williams.

After two victories in development battles, including defeating Furkat Tursunov (also known as Alexander Jakob, record: 25-4), he went to Cuxhaven in March 2009 against Ondřej Pála (22-2) and was defeated by the Czech over ten rounds Points. In January 2010 Airich boxed in a rematch against Olexij Masikin, in which he managed a draw. In November 2010 Airich lost prematurely to Gbenga Oluokun (17-5).

In May 2011 Airich took part in a Prizefighter tournament in London and moved into the semi-finals with a win against the unbeaten Romanian Lucian Bot (14-0), where he played against the 2.03 m tall US champion Tye Fields (45- 3) lost.

In October 2011 he defeated Varol Vekiloğlu (18-2) by knockout in the first round and thereby won the intercontinental title of the IBF , which he defended in March 2012 by TKo in the ninth round against Ondřej Pála (30-2) could. His win against Pála, who won his last 19 fights in a row and defeated Airich himself in 2009, is considered the greatest success of his career. In addition, with the victory he also became European champion of the WBO .

In May 2012 Airich lost in Texas on points against Odlanier Solís (17-1) and also lost his next fight in September 2012 against Vyacheslav Hlaskow (12-0). Nevertheless, he boxed for the Baltic and Mediterranean championships of the WBC in December 2012 , but was knocked out in the first round by Manuel Charr (21-1).

After not having played a fight in 2013, he appeared as a build-up opponent from 2014 and lost to Christian Hammer , Anthony Joshua , Mariusz Wach , Adrian Granat and Robert Helenius , among others .
