Oleksij Andrijowytsch Masikin ( Ukrainian Олексій Андрійович Мазікін ; born  February 16, 1975 in Kharkiv ) is a Ukrainian heavyweight boxer .

amateur

Masikin was quite a successful amateur. In 2000 he took part in the Olympic Games in Sydney , beat the New Zealand representative, but lost in the second round to the eventual winner and southpaw Audley Harrison on points.

In 2001 at the Amateur World Championships in Belfast he achieved his best result and beat the Cuban Pedro Carrión , among others , but lost in the final prematurely against the future professional world champion Ruslan Chagayev . At the Goodwill Games in Brisbane in the same year , he lost to Alexander Powetkin and Carrión.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens Masikin lost to the Italian southpaw Roberto Cammarelle in the second round .

professional

Oleksij Masikin turned professional in Hamburg in 2005, but could not meet the high expectations. Main problem. Although he defeated Valeri Chechenev, who had been unbeaten in ten fights on November 15, 2005, on August 22, 2006 he lost to his compatriot Taras Bidenko just on points, his first defeat as a professional.

In the fight on June 16, 2007 against the Cuban amateur world champion and Olympic champion Odlanier Solís , who played his second professional fight against him, Masikin was knocked out in the first round. After two wins in 2007, Masikin boxed a draw against Konstantin Airich on March 14, 2008 .

On August 31, 2008 Masikin defeated the previously undefeated Russian Artur Marabjan . Marabjan went down in the fourth round and the judges scored 119: 108, 120: 107 and 119: 108. Masikin thus secured the "Interim WBO Asia Pacific Title" in the heavyweight division.
