Hairbrush with metal bristles

The hairbrush is a brush that is used specifically as a care and styling product for the hair. They are available in different shapes and sizes and depending on the purpose and preference you can choose between different materials.

Hairbrushes are used for simple hairdressing or blow-drying. Especially when used in combination with a hairdryer , the brush must meet various criteria: It should be heat-resistant and also enable good air exchange to prevent the material or the hair from being exposed to excessive heat.

construction

A brush classically consists of a brush body and bristles, which are also called feed material.

Brush body

The brush body can be made of plastic or wood (e.g. maple or bamboo wood ). While the handle is usually made of one of these materials, or possibly has a rubberized surface for better grip, the part of the brush body into which the bristles are embedded can also consist of metal or be coated with it. The reason for this is a more efficient heat distribution when blow-drying. For a better exchange of air, the brush bodies are partly also provided with air holes or slots and the distances between the rows of bristles are also adjusted accordingly.

Bristles

There are three materials used for the bristles: plastic (e.g. nylon ), natural bristles (e.g. wild boar or horsehair) and wire. Plastic and wire bristles are often covered at the end with knobs or small balls made of plastic in order to prevent damage to the hair and scalp. Brushes can either have one of the three feed materials or a combination.

to form

There are brushes in a wide variety of shapes, e.g. B. round, flat or oval.

Paddle brush

As the name suggests, the paddle brush is shaped like a paddle, flat and often with a large area in which the bristles are embedded. This shape is suitable as a blow dryer brush, as the hair section is fanned out widely. The bristles are often not simply embedded in the brush body, but rather in a rubber cushion that yields when the hair is brushed and is therefore gentle on the hair and scalp.

Round brush

Round brush

If you want to create more volume, a round brush is recommended, in which the hair is placed over the brush and twisted. This allows you to blow-dry them under more tension and gives them volume by screwing them in. You can also influence whether the ends of the hair fall outwards or inwards.

Skeleton brush

The skeleton brush, also called vent brush, is usually made entirely of plastic and has many air-permeable spaces.
