Life

Öner grew up in the Marxloh district of Duisburg . Öner's parents, his father is a trained tailor, came to Germany in 1970. Öner first went to a grammar school, had to change it and finally came to a secondary school, which he left without a degree. He then worked piecework in a canning factory and thereby financed his driver's license. Later he was a brief bouncer in a brothel. In 1989 the police found cocaine on him and he was sentenced to 18 months probation after almost 4 months in custody. He made up his Abitur through a second education path . Then Öner began to study business administration , which he did not complete and opened several tanning studios in Hamburg .

Öner began his boxing career with the amateurs of Hamborn 07 . Between 1997 and 2002, Öner played 23 professional fights for the Sauerland and Universum stables. As an opponent he had z. B. Bruce Özbek (including 19-time kickboxing world champion) and Mario Veit . His greatest success was the title of International German Light Heavyweight Champion.

After his active boxing career, Öner worked as a boxing manager and promoter. First he was known as the manager of Sinan Şamil Sam . In 2006 he and his business partners Bernd Menzel and Paul Bauer, managing directors of Menzel Vermögensverwaltungs AG , founded the company Arena Box-Promotion , the third boxing stable in Hamburg . For this he signed several well-known boxers like Juan Carlos Gómez , Steffen Kretschmann and the German amateur super heavyweight champion of 2006, Konstantin Airich .

At the beginning of 2007 Öner succeeded in signing the three Cuban Olympic champions Odlanier Solís , Yuriolkis Gamboa and Yan Barthelemí for three years. In April 2007 he signed a contract with the pay TV broadcaster Premiere . This contract brought Öner recognition in the boxing scene and media attention.

In August 2009, Öner was shot in the left thigh in a backyard in the Hamburg district of Borgfelde . A suspicion that Cuban agents were seeking revenge for the escape of the three Cuban Olympic champions Solís, Gamboa and Barthelemí could not be proven. The background of the crime was never clarified.

After the Hamburg public prosecutor had brought charges against Öner in March 2009 for 16 different offenses, including extortion, coercion, threats, insults, resistance to enforcement officers and bodily harm, from September 2004 to May 2008, Öner was brought before the Hamburg district court in February 2010 Sentenced to a fine of 120,000 euros and a 22-month suspended prison sentence.

Scandals

Öner was repeatedly involved in scandal and scandals in boxing. In February 2004, after the European championship match between Luan Krasniqi and Sinan Şamil Sam , he accused the judges of bribery and physically attacked Klaus-Peter Kohl .

On May 19, 2007, there was an initially verbal argument between Ahmet Öner and two of his companions on the one hand and the security staff at Klaus-Peter Kohl's 250th boxing event in Hamburg on the other. Shortly before Karolina Łukasik boxed against Heidi Hartmann , there was a wild brawl between those involved, with injuries. Öner stated that he had been provoked by gestures, looks and verbally by the security staff. Since the incident, Öner has been banned from all Universum Box Promotion events .

In May 2008, he caused a scandal when he went to the timekeeper's table in the sixth round of Danny Williams' fight against Konstantin Airich , rang the bell and thus arbitrarily shortened the round by about half because his boxer Airich got into trouble was. Shortly afterwards, in June 2008, verbal derailments and physical attacks on referees at an event in Hattersheim, Hesse , in order to help one of his boxers to a victory. On July 4, 2008 in Ankara he tried repeatedly to influence the judges in the EM fight Paolo Vidoz against arena boxer Sinan Şamil Sam. The Federation of German Professional Boxers then asked Öner to comment on these incidents, whereupon he left the association and held his events under a Latvian license.

After Vitali Klitschko had sent Odlanier Solis, supervised by Öner, to the ground after only 169 seconds on March 19, 2011 , another scandal broke out. At a press conference, Öner Klitschko's supervisor Bernd Bönte threatened with the words "Bernd, I swear to you, I will kill you" and had to be prevented from being fisted by three security men after Bönte said: "Look at this anti-social. 22 months probation. He threatened my family, has already hit me three times. ” Öner had stated that Solis suffered a cruciate ligament injury and therefore had to give up. Bönte replied that the injury was only an act. At the hospital, however, it turned out that Solis had indeed torn a cruciate ligament and a lateral meniscus . Öner later apologized for the derailment after the fight with the following words: "I let myself be carried away into an action that was not okay, the action was unnecessary, I overreacted, I'm sorry."

During a press conference in October 2017, Öner berated the fitness trainer of Chris Eubank junior and threatened assault, whereupon the conference had to be broken off for security reasons. Öner allegedly felt provoked by gestures.
