Professional career

Mario Veit, unusually tall in his weight class, made his professional debut on September 23, 1995 at the age of 21. His trainer was Fritz Sdunek . After winning 18 fights, he boxed on November 14, 1998 in Munich for the international German championship title in the super middleweight division against Croatian Branko Šobot (16-2) and won unanimously on points.

After five consecutive victories, four of them by knockout, he was able to fight for the intercontinental championship of the WBO in super middleweight on October 23, 1999 in Frankfurt am Main . He defeated his American opponent Ray Domenge unanimously on points. After five more wins, four of which were knockouts, he qualified for a WBO world championship match in the super middleweight division. Against the undefeated, reigning champion Joe Calzaghe (30-0) Veit had to accept a heavy defeat on April 28, 2001 when he lost in the first round to tKo. Despite his size and range advantages, he was hopelessly inferior to his opponent from Wales and went down twice at the start of the fight before he was taken out of the fight by the referee before his third knockdown.

After six build-up wins, including against Ahmet Öner , who later became known as a boxing promoter , he secured the IBF intercontinental championship on December 21, 2002 with a knockout victory against the Belarusian Malik Dziarra (11-0) . On April 26, 2003 he won the EU title of the EBU by winning points against the Spaniard José María Guerrero (19-0).

On May 8, 2004 he boxed in Dortmund for the interim WBO world title against Kabary Salem (23-2) and was able to prevail just on points. He also benefited from two point deductions against Salem, which Salem had received for head butts. After a points win against Lolenga Mock (22-8) and a knockout win against Charles Brewer (40-9), he got another chance for the WBO title against Joe Calzaghe (38-0). But also in this fight on May 7, 2005 in Braunschweig Veit was clearly inferior and was far behind on points before he went down for the first time in the fifth round and lost again in the sixth round by tKo.

He achieved a last, prestigious victory on May 27, 2006 in Munich, when he defeated his undefeated stable colleague Jürgen Brähmer (27-0) on points and was awarded the WBC international championship title . However , he suffered a knockout defeat almost five months later against the Russian Denis Inkin (28-0). He also lost the rematch against Brähmer on September 15, 2007 by knockout in the fourth round. This was also his last boxing match.

After his boxing career, he worked as a nurse .
