The Brose Arena (spelling: brose ARENA ) is a multi-purpose hall in Bamberg, Upper Franconia . It is the third largest multi-purpose arena in Bavaria after the Munich Olympic Hall and the Nürnberger Versicherung Arena .

history

The naming rights of the hall built in 2001 (formerly Forum Bamberg) were sold to JAKO (manufacturer of team sports clothing) in March 2006 . In the course of marketing the naming rights, the same year began to expand the hall from 4750 (6850 for concerts) to 6820 (over 8000 for concerts) seats. During the renovation, which cost six million euros , the foyer of the hall was pulled forward 20 meters to create space for a new north stand. When remodeling nine emerged VIP - boxes on the west side and an adjacent business area. With an area of 600 m², it can accommodate up to 700 visitors. Under the complex there is a shopping center with a large supermarket and several shops and restaurants.

In 2010 the operator of the Jako Arena went bankrupt . The hall was thereafter for 4.5 million. Euros bought by the city of Bamberg . This decision is controversial to this day, as the hall makes little or no profits.

From October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2013 the hall was named after the tubular steel furniture manufacturer Stechert. Since October 1, 2013 the hall has been called Brose Arena, named after the automotive supplier Brose . As part of the name change, there is also major maintenance and renovation work to the amount of around 2.5 million euros by the city of Bamberg , which the Brose company requested as a condition for sponsorship. On the one hand, the acoustics in the hall's interior were improved by expanding the existing loudspeaker system and installing sound-absorbing wall cladding. On the other hand, the video technology was brought up to date through the acquisition of a video cube with the latest LED technology and the renewal of the networks throughout the house. The new grandstand seating and the modernization of the business area also contribute significantly to the appearance of the arena. At the same time, the standing room in the north and south stands was gradually dismantled and replaced with new seating stands. This fact led to a reduction in the maximum capacity of the hall to 5745 spectators.

In October 2018 Brose extended the naming rights for the arena until 2023. The prerequisite for this was the commitment of the city to extensive modernization and renovation measures amounting to 5.6 million euros.

Events

The Brose Arena is the home ground of the Bundesliga basketball team and Basketball Champions League participant Brose Bamberg and, in the 2009/10 season, the Bundesliga volleyball team Eschenbacher Volleys Bamberg . Furthermore, the play-off final of the table tennis Bundesliga of the 2011/12 season was played for the first time as a real final on neutral ground in Bamberg. It is also the venue for numerous concerts and trade fairs as well as entertainment and company events. In 2008 the arena was also the venue for two boxing matches for the IBF World Championship and in 2012 the round of 16 in the Davis Cup between Germany and Argentina . In addition, because of its large capacity , the Otto Friedrich University regularly uses the arena for exams at the end of the semester. In 2013 Seeed , Sportfreunde Stiller , Bülent Ceylan , Cindy from Marzahn and Michael Mittermeier were guests in Bamberg. With more than 150 events a year, the hall has around 400,000 visitors.
