The VC Franken is a former volleyball -Verein whose first men's team under the name Eschenbacher volleys Bamberg in the 2009/10 season in the Bundesliga played. The club was re-founded in 2009 after the Bundesliga club SG Eltmann had to stop playing.
VG Bamberg served as the substructure for VC Franconia, in which, in addition to VC Franconia, the volleyball departments of three other clubs are combined. The VG Bamberg provided two other men's teams (regional and regional leagues), five women's teams (regional, regional and regional leagues) and several youth teams.
Bundesliga
The new club took over the place of SG Eltmann in the Bundesliga. Due to financial difficulties, the VC Franconia was revoked on March 22, 2010 by the German Volleyball League . The club was the first to be relegated in the 2009/10 season. From a purely sporting point of view, the team finished the season in 5th place, but due to irregularities in the licensing process, two points were deducted, so that the VC Franken was placed 6th in the table. Due to a lack of assets, no insolvency proceedings were opened against the association.
On March 29, 2010, the Bundesliga license was transferred to the newly founded club Franken Volleys Bamberg eV . At the same time, the right to play for all teams playing for VC Franconia was transferred to the Franconian volleys, which, however, had already given up the second division starting place in May 2010.
Venue
The games took place in the Jako-Arena in Bamberg, which is also home to the Bundesliga basketball team Brose Baskets .
