Basketball Bundesliga 2018/19

The Basketball Bundesliga season 2019/20 (officially easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga ) was the 54th season of the top German division in men's basketball . The league began on September 24, 2019 with the 1st match day and ended after a Corona- related interruption with subsequent change of its operation to a tournament mode on June 28, 2020.

General

  • With the Hamburg Towers only one team rose to the top division. The Nürnberg Falcons BC , who were also athletically qualified, were refused a license for the highest German division due to the lack of economic performance and a venue that did not meet the league requirements. This means that only 17 teams played in the first basketball league in the 2019/20 season.
  • As in the previous season, all league games and the games in the new cup mode were broadcast by Magenta Sport ( live and on-demand ).
  • Again there was an international break .
  • An All-Star-Day did not take place in the 2019/20 season due to the tight schedule.
  • On March 12, 2020, the season was completely suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic . This presented many of the clubs with existence-threatening difficulties, as the income is mainly based on the ticket sales. At the beginning of May 2020, Munich was selected as the venue for the season-end tournament. Ten teams announced that they wanted to take part in the tournament. The ending of the previously interrupted main round was waived, the relegation rule was suspended.
