The 1979/80 season is the 14th season of the Basketball Bundesliga . The top division in German men's club basketball, until 1990 limited to the territory of West Germany without the GDR , was played in a league with ten teams, followed by final and relegation rounds.
Season Notes
- The SSC Göttingen won his first championship before the season end with the TG 1846 Göttingen for ASC 1846 Göttingen merged.
- Another premiere was the first title win by BSC Saturn Cologne , which won the cup competition against old master MTV 1846 Gießen .
- While first division returnees Hamburger TB held the class, newcomer Eintracht Frankfurt had to return to the 2nd basketball division and took away the record champions USC Heidelberg .
- The team of the Post SV Bayreuth separated from the club and entered this season as USC Bayreuth .
