Change of league

In sport, a change of game class is the change or being classified in a higher ( promotion ) or lower ( relegation ) performance class.

Team sports , in particular, are divided into leagues (divisions), between which the teams switch through promotion or relegation depending on the season result. In the “fight to stay up ” there can also be a relegation .

The re- promotion is the return to a higher performance or division. This can be done years later, or as a quick, immediate recovery in the next season.

Two climbs in two consecutive seasons are referred to as a walk-through . In German club football, the following teams made it through from the third division to the first, the Bundesliga :

At least two successive descents are referred to as pass-through . In German club football, the following teams had to experience relegation from the Bundesliga to the third division:

Fortuna Düsseldorf (1992–1995) thus managed to march through immediately after being passed through, while SC Paderborn (2015–2019) succeeded in passing through further, which was prevented by football law. The SSV Ulm, however, suffered the opposite fate between 1998 and 2001.
