Change of league
In sport, a change of game class is the change or being classified in a higher ( promotion ) or lower ( relegation ) performance class.
Team sports , in particular, are divided into leagues (divisions), between which the teams switch through promotion or relegation depending on the season result. In the “fight to stay up ” there can also be a relegation .
The re- promotion is the return to a higher performance or division. This can be done years later, or as a quick, immediate recovery in the next season.
Two climbs in two consecutive seasons are referred to as a walk-through . In German club football, the following teams made it through from the third division to the first, the Bundesliga :
- TSV 1860 Munich : 1992/93 promotion from the Bayernliga to the 2nd Bundesliga , 1993/94 promotion to the 1st Bundesliga.
- Fortuna Düsseldorf : 1993/94 promotion from the Oberliga Nordrhein to the 2nd Bundesliga, 1994/95 promotion to the 1st Bundesliga.
- Arminia Bielefeld : 1994/95 promotion from the Regionalliga West / Südwest to the 2nd Bundesliga, 1995/96 promotion to the 1st Bundesliga.
- 1. FC Nürnberg : 1996/97 promotion from Regionalliga Süd to the 2nd Bundesliga, 1997/98 promotion to the 1st Bundesliga.
- SSV Ulm 1846 : 1997/98 promotion from the Regionalliga Süd to the 2nd Bundesliga, 1998/99 promotion to the 1st Bundesliga.
- TSG 1899 Hoffenheim : 2006/07 promotion from the Regionalliga Süd to the 2nd Bundesliga, 2007/08 promotion to the 1st Bundesliga.
- SV Darmstadt 98 : 2013/14 promotion from the 3rd division to the 2nd Bundesliga, 2014/15 promotion to the 1st Bundesliga.
- SC Paderborn 07 : After the prevented relegation to the Regionalliga (see below), promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga and 2018/19 to the 1st Bundesliga took place in 2017/18 .
At least two successive descents are referred to as pass-through . In German club football, the following teams had to experience relegation from the Bundesliga to the third division:
- SC Paderborn 07 : Relegation from the Bundesliga 2014/15 to the 2nd Bundesliga 2015/16 and further relegation to the 3rd Soccer League 2016/17 , with repeated relegation to the Regional League due to the license withdrawal of TSV 1860 Munich could be averted.
- FC St. Pauli : Relegation from the Bundesliga 2001/02 to the 2nd Bundesliga 2002/03 and further relegation to the Regionalliga Nord 2003/04 .
- SpVgg Unterhaching : Relegation from the Bundesliga 2000/01 to the 2nd Bundesliga 2001/02 and further relegation to the Regionalliga Süd 2002/03 .
- SSV Ulm : Relegation from the Bundesliga 1999/2000 to the 2nd Bundesliga 2000/01 and further relegation to the Regionalliga Süd 2001/02 .
- Fortuna Düsseldorf : Relegation from the Bundesliga 1991/92 to the 2nd Bundesliga 1992/93 and further relegation to the Oberliga Nordrhein 1993/94 .
- Kickers Offenbach : Relegation from the Bundesliga 1983/84 to the 2nd Bundesliga 1985/86 and further relegation to the Hessen Football League 1986/87 .
- TSV 1860 Munich : Relegation from the Bundesliga 1983/84 to the 2nd Bundesliga 1981/82 and further relegation through license withdrawal to the Football Bayern League 1982/83 .
- FC St. Pauli : Relegation from the Bundesliga 1977/78 to the 2nd Bundesliga 1978/79 and further relegation through license withdrawal to the Football Oberliga Nord 1979/80 .
Fortuna Düsseldorf (1992–1995) thus managed to march through immediately after being passed through, while SC Paderborn (2015–2019) succeeded in passing through further, which was prevented by football law. The SSV Ulm, however, suffered the opposite fate between 1998 and 2001.
