Basketball Bundesliga 1968/69

The 1969/70 season is the fourth season of the Basketball Bundesliga . The top division in German men's club basketball, until 1990 limited to the area of West Germany without the GDR , was played in two regional groups, north and south, and identified the first eight participants in the final round of the German championship.

Season Notes

The TuSA Düsseldorf , the Post SV Hannover and the ASC Gelsenkirchen in the group north as well as the BC Darmstadt and the TG Würzburg in the group south were relegated in the previous season from the top division . Eintracht Frankfurt withdrew from the top division after two seasons. New in the top division were the Berliner SV 92 , ASV Köln and USC Münster in the north group, as well as TuS REI Koblenz , TV Kirchheimbolanden and returnees TSV 1860 Munich in the south group. The main round was held in round- robin mode within the respective regional groups. In that season, undecided game results were also included in the evaluation.

As an innovation, the first four teams in the regional groups qualified for two final groups, in which, in the round-robin mode, two teams from a regional group played in a final group according to the placements in the main round, with the "odd" placed teams on the " even " placed teams of the met another regional group. The two group winners in the final round went straight to the final of the German championship without a semi-final. In the final game in the sports hall in Dillingen / Saar to a duel between runner-up MTV 1846 Gießen and last year's promoted TuS 04 Leverkusen . The later record champions TuS 04 won his first title with a narrow 76:73 win over MTV, which lost the second final in a row. One month later, TuS 04 also clearly won the cup competition in the final in Braunschweig against previous year's champions VfL Osnabrück and completed the double and a “ perfect season ” without defeat.
