Basketball Bundesliga 1974/75

The 1975/76 season is the tenth season of the Basketball Bundesliga . The top division in German men's club basketball, until 1990 limited to the territory of West Germany without the GDR , was played for the first time in a “single-track” division of ten teams, after the class had previously consisted of two regional groups with eight teams each.

Season Notes

  • Before the season, the two previous regional groups were merged into a "single-track" league. For this purpose, the league strength of eight teams per regional group was reduced to a total of ten teams in one group. A simple round-robin tournament was played with each game played back and forth. A final round, which was reintroduced for the following season, has been waived for the time being.
  • Below the first Bundesliga, a second basketball league was introduced in two regional groups, north and south, in which, in addition to three relegated teams from the basketball league 1974/75 , seven teams each rose from the regional leagues .
  • If there had been undecided game results in the past, now every single league game was decided at the latest after the regular playing time was extended, so that every game had a winner and a loser.
  • The Hamburg TB waived his right to start in the first division and continued to play in the second division. In return, ASV Köln returned to the top division, so that there was, as it were, a climber from the regional leagues to the top division.
  • The champions of the 1975/76 season was TuS 04 Leverkusen , which also won the cup competition and thus the double for the third time in its fourth championship title .
  • Relegated at the end of the season were SGN Essen / Ruwa Essen-Dellwig (cessation of game operations) and ADB Koblenz ( 2nd Basketball Bundesliga Group South ). They were replaced by the two champions of the 2nd basketball league SSC Göttingen (group north) and Post SV Bayreuth (group south).
