The BSC Saturn 77 Cologne was a German basketball club . The club was created in 1977 from the outsourced basketball department of ASV Cologne . Legally, however, the spin-off did not take place until 1978. The basketball department of ASV Cologne played from 1969/1970 to 1971/1972, in the 1973/1974 season and from 1975 to the spin-off in the basketball league .

The club won four German championships (1981, 1982, 1987, 1988), plus three cup wins (1980, 1981, 1983). The most successful and well-known player was the national and European selection player Klaus Zander . Other well-known players were Stephan Baeck , Hansi Gnad , Holger Geschwindner , Michael Jackel and Michael Pappert .

The main sponsor since June 1977 was Fritz Waffenschmidt , then owner of the Saturn store. The sale of the Saturn store to the Kaufhof department store group in March 1984 meant the end of funds for the association. So the top basketball in Cologne ended abruptly. Attempts at a financial cooperation with Galatasaray from Istanbul failed. The club, renamed Galatasaray Cologne in 1989 due to the cooperation, filed for bankruptcy in 1990 and had to stop playing. In 1993 the association was formally dissolved.
