history

The roots of basketball at SV Halle lie in the HSG Wissenschaft Halle , founded in 1949 , which was renamed SC Wissenschaft Halle in 1955. In 1958 the competitive sports departments were delegated to SC Chemie Halle. The basketball department of SC Chemie won five GDR championships for women and two GDR championships for men in the 1960s.

In 1969 basketball was spun off from the SCC into the SG HPW 69 hall. In 1997, the department finally came back to SV Halle via name changes to SG KPV 69 Halle (completely Sportgemeinschaft Kombinat Pumpen und Verdichter 69 Halle ), SC HPW 69 Halle (1990, completely Sportclub Hallesche Pumpenwerke 69 Halle ) and BC 69 Halle (1993).

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the women’s basketball team managed to establish themselves in the first women's basketball league . In the 2011/12 season they reached 7th place in the Bundesliga and reached the runner-up in the playoffs. On the website of SV Halle, the successes of the outsourced clubs from 1970 to 1990 (2 × GDR champions for men, 20 × GDR champions for women) are not included in the success statistics, SV Halle Lions lists the successes of women of the KPV in its history. The basketball traditions of the KPV go back to the year 1954 as SK KPV Halle, while the original club HSG Wissenschaft Halle in the 1970s and 1980s had successes in the top league of the GDR as a direct competitor for both women and men the SG KPV 69 Halle celebrated.
