Basketball Bundesliga 1969/70

The 1970/71 season is the fifth season of the Basketball Bundesliga . The top division in German men's club basketball, until 1990 limited to the area of West Germany without the GDR , was played in two regional groups, North and South, and determined the eight participants in the final round of the German championship.

Season Notes

ATV Düsseldorf , Neuköllner Sportfreunde and USC Münster in the north group and Heidelberger TV and TV Kirchheimbolanden in the south group were relegated from the top division of the previous season . New in the top division were BG Buer , SV St. Georg von 1895 from Hamburg and SSC Göttingen , who had played as SSV Hellas in the Bundesliga basketball league in the 1966/67 premiere season , in Group North and 1 FC Bamberg and EK 1847 Eppelheim in the group south. The main round was held in round- robin mode within the respective regional groups. In that season, undecided game results were also included in the evaluation.

Due to the reduction of the regional groups to eight teams for the following season, the last four teams in each regional group were relegated. The first four teams of the regional groups in the main round qualified for two final round groups, in which two teams from a regional group played in a final round group according to the placements in the main round. The teams placed "oddly" met the teams placed " evenly " in the other regional group. The two group winners in the final round went straight to the final of the German championship without a semi-final. As a novelty, the third placed was played in a small final in the two legs. The final of the championship was also played back and forth.

The TuS 04 Leverkusen was again the double win league and cup. Runner-up was USC Munich , which had previously strengthened itself prominently and, with coach Lakfalvi and, among others, national player Holger Geschwindner , had signed players who had become German champions several times at MTV 1846 Gießen . In the duel of the "old masters" for third place, MTV Giessen had the upper hand over USC Heidelberg.
