Volkmar Knopke

Volkmar Knopke (* 1946 ; † May 9, 2013 ) was a German basketball player .

career

Knopke became German champions in 1963 with the A-youth of MTV Wolfenbüttel and later played for the club in the basketball league . In the playing years 1968/69 and 1969/70 he was the top scorer of the Bundesliga with 423 and 479 points respectively in the main round. In 1972 he won the DBB Cup with Wolfenbüttel . With the club he also ran in the European Cup.

After the end of his competitive sports career, Knopke remained connected to senior basketball and continued to play for MTV Wolfenbüttel, with which he won numerous titles. In addition, he won the world championship title in 1993 with the German selection in the age group over 45.

His son Henje played in the 2000s and 2010s for the Wolfenbüttel Dukes , the Dukes Wolfenbüttel  and the UBC Hannover in the 2nd Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga ProB . His daughter Maren played for the Wolfenbüttel Baskets in the women's basketball league .

Volkmar Knopke died in May 2013 at the age of 67.
