Life

As a teenager, Gashi tried various martial arts such as kickboxing and karate . He was also German champion in freestyle football. At the age of 17, Gashi began seriously with classic boxing at the Boxing Club 1921 Neunkirchen under the supervision of Alfred König, with which he first came into contact at the age of eight in Albania. In his 98 fights extensive amateur career, in which he did not leave the ring as a winner only 12 times, he celebrated five Saarland and two southwest championships. At the federal German level, Gashi took part in the German championships in 2010 and 2011. In November 2010, Gashi finished fourth in the U21 championships in Eichstätt after one win and two defeats. Four weeks later Gashi started in the elite class in Oldenburg and was clearly defeated on points in his opening fight. At the next edition in December 2011 in Leipzig , Gashi lost his opening fight again by a clear defeat, in which the opponent was this time Artur Mann . In March 2012 Gashi won the German Open in the light contact version of hand fencing , where he prevailed against internationally highly decorated kickboxers with Karsten Krüger and Muhammed Halli. After a cruciate ligament rupture in April 2013 , Gashi had to stop boxing for six months.

Gashi studied financial services for six semesters at the FH Kaiserslautern (2010–2013). In 2013 he received a sports scholarship and then continued his studies with a bachelor's degree in sports and fitness economics at the German University for Prevention and Health Care (DHfpG) in Saarbrücken , which he successfully completed in 2015.

In 2014 Gashi started his professional career in boxing.

Career as a professional boxer

On May 17, 2014, Gashi made his professional debut with a knockout win in the first round.

Gashi won his first 15 professional fights, primarily against opponents who were building up, all of them prematurely and only needed 22 rounds. He won ten of his 15 fights in the first round. His eleventh fight on October 2, 2015 brought him the WBC Baltic Heavyweight title and the German International Heavyweight title when his opponent gave up in the fourth round.

On May 21, 2016, Gashi achieved the vacant title of heavyweight world champion of the Germany-based Global Boxing Union (GBU) as the number 64 independent world ranking list . He defeated the former GBU cruiserweight world champion Marino Goles with a first round knockout .

On April 22, 2018, Gashi made his first public television appearance as a challenger to WBO intercontinental champion and German champion Tom Schwarz , who, like Gashi, has been unbeaten in his professional career to date. In a turbulent fight, Gashi was repeatedly warned by the referee for repeated headbuttings and was finally disqualified in the sixth round.

In December 2018, Gashi won against the Argentine Ruben Angel Mino by knockout in the first round. In the same month, Gashi took the short-term opportunity to compete with Carlos Takam for the first time against an international top-class opponent after his originally planned opponent had canceled. In a tough argument about advantages for the ten-year-old Frenchman, Gashi was taken out of the fight after a total of three knockdowns in the seventh round. The main fight of the evening in the O2 Arena in London was the battle for the WBC Silver title and the WBO Intercontinental heavyweight title, in which Dillian Whyte prematurely triumphed over Dereck Chisora . In April 2019, Gashi and Chisora finally faced each other at the same place, with Gashi clearly defeating the British after ten rounds on points with an indisputable performance and could not recommend himself for future lucrative offers.

On July 27, 2019 Gashi won in Tetovo , Macedonia against the former Bosnian amateur champion Ervin Dzinic the European title according to the UBF version by a knockout victory in the first round. In October of the same year Gashi secured the two interim world championship titles of the GBU and WBF by a TKo victory in the second round over the Turkish Özcan Çetinkaya .
