World Boxing Federation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The World Boxing Federation ( WBF ) is a boxing association that organizes official fights and awards, among other things, the WBF world championship in professional boxing . It is affiliated with the ABC and is therefore subject to the same rules as the five major world associations.

The WBF was founded by the American Larry Carrier in 1988 and dissolved in 2004. After the Interregnum , the boxing association was revitalized as a non-profit organization in 2009 based in Niederkorn in Luxembourg . Olaf Schröder, Howard Goldberg and Christian Rösen were significantly involved in the rebuilding of the WBF. From 2010, Jean-Marcel Nartz, a major player in German professional boxing, was also a member of the WBF board and served as vice-president until 2019. The WBF is not counted among the influential world boxing federations.

There have been several well-known titleholders of the association such as Evander Holyfield , Roy Jones Jr. , Johnny Nelson , Francois Botha , Christina Hammer , John Scully and Senad Gashi. The WBF organizes around 90 title fights worldwide every year.
