Verena S. Freytag

Verena S. Freytag (born July 31, 1973 in Stuttgart ), also known as Sülbiye Verena Günar , is a director and screenwriter .

Life

Verena S. Freytag studied directing and scriptwriting at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin from 1995 to 2001.

In 2001 she made her debut as a director with the WDR cinema co-production Karamuk , which was awarded the German Civis Media Prize for entertainment for best feature film. Her diploma film Saniyes Lust (ZDF- Kleines Fernsehspiel) was nominated for the Bernd Burgemeister Television Award in 2004 at the Munich Film Festival. In 2011, the feature film Abgebrannt was released in cinemas nationwide and received the SR-ZDF script award, the New Berlin Film Award and the Juliane Bartel media award at festivals.

Freytag has also been working as a commissioned director and screenwriter since 2006.

From 2014 to 2016, Freytag was a member of the board of directors of the Federal Association . She is a member of the German Film Academy , section directing. Freytag has been a guest lecturer for directing at the Macromedia University in Cologne since 2018.
