Karamuk is a German comedy film from 2003. It is the first feature film by Verena S. Freytag aka Sülbiye Günar and was based on an idea by Gritt Neuer and based on an original script.

action

Johanna Wiese is a plump girl about to graduate from high school. Her particular creative talent as a tailor made her want to drop out of school in order to try her hand at being a fashion designer in Paris. From now on there are fights not only with mother and grandmother, but also with classmates. In this situation Johanna finds out that her biological father is a Turk whom she has never seen in her life. When she starts to work in his restaurant without telling him about her relatives, she learns a lot about Turkish culture, but above all that her father and daughter lead a more carefree life than she does. Her longing soon to belong to this family leads to disaster.

criticism

The comedy ran successfully at international film festivals. The first broadcast on German television on March 1, 2004 in the third program of Westdeutscher Rundfunk saw 0.16 million viewers, which corresponds to a market share of 1.7%. The lexicon of international films called the film a “cheerful coming-of-age story, largely free of clichés, carried by a convincing young leading actress”.
