Michelangelo Crispi

Michelangelo Crispi (* 5. February 1972 in Catania ) is a former Italian lightweight - rowers , the World Championships winning three gold and three silver medals.

Athletic career

The 1.84 m tall Michelangelo Crispi was second in the doubles sculls at the Junior World Championships in 1990 . In 1991 he won the lightweight double scull at the Match des Seniors, a forerunner of the U23 World Championships .

In the same year Crispi finished eleventh in the lightweight double scull at the 1991 World Championships in the adult class. In 1992 the world championships in the non-Olympic boat classes took place in Montreal . The Italian lightweight double scull with Michelangelo Crispi, Francesco Esposito , Massimo Lana and Massimo Guglielmi won ahead of the Swedes and the German boat. In 1993, the Italian lightweight double sculls competed at the World Championships in Račice u Štětí in the line-up of Michelangelo Crispi, Enrico Grandola , Massimo Lana and Ivano Zasio and won the silver medal behind the Austrians at the same time as the German boat. In 1994 Crispi switched to the lightweight double scull. At the World Championships in Indianapolis he won together with Francesco Esposito in front of the New Zealanders and the Swiss. In 1995 Crispi finished 22nd in the lightweight double scull at the World Championships in Tampere .

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , competitions in lightweight rowing were on the Olympic program for the first time. 19 boats competed in the lightweight double scull. Michelangelo Crispi competed with Marco Audisio . The two were runner-up and won their reunion. After fourth place in the semifinals, they finished second in the B final and were eighth in the overall standings.

In 1997 Michelangelo Crispi won the World Cup regatta in Lucerne together with Leonardo Pettinari . At the world championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette , the two won the silver medal behind the Poles and ahead of the Germans. In 1998 Crispi and Pettinari won the World Cup in Hazewinkel and took second place behind the Germans in Lucerne. At the World Championships in Cologne , the Poles won ahead of the Italians and the Swiss. In 1999 Crispi and Pettinari won the World Cup in Lucerne. At the World Championships in St. Catharines , the two won gold in front of the Australians and the Germans.

Crispi's international career ended in 1999 and Pettinari rowed with Elia Luini in 2000 . Crispi rowed for Fiamme Gialle , the sports department of the Guardia di Finanza .
