Storm Uru (* 14. February 1985 in Invercargill ) is a former New Zealand lightweight - rowers . He was world champion in 2009 and Olympic knight in 2012.

Athletic career

Storm Uru started rowing in 1999. In 2005 he took third place in the lightweight single at the U23 World Championships , in 2006 and 2007 he won the title. In 2008 the 1.90 m tall Uru switched to the lightweight double scull . Peter Taylor and Storm Uru qualified for the Olympic Games in Lucerne , in Beijing they achieved seventh place as winners of the B final.

In 2009 Taylor and Uru won two World Cup regattas and also won the gold medal at the World Championships in Poznan . In 2010 the World Championships took place in New Zealand, Taylor and Uru received the bronze medal in front of a home crowd. The following year, the two New Zealanders won the silver medal at the World Championships in Bled . Having received a medal at the season highlight every year since 2009, Taylor and Uru also reached the medal ranks at the 2012 Olympics and finished in third place.

Storm Uru's brother Jade Uru was also a world class rower.
