Paolo Pittino

Paolo Pittino (* 2. February 1968 ) is a former Italian lightweight - rowers who won between 1990 and 1999 eight world championship medals, including five gold medals.

Career

Pittino finished fourth at the 1989 World Championships with the lightweight quadruple scull . In 1990 he became world champion in this boat class both at the U23 world championships and at the world championships without age restrictions . At the 1991 World Championships , the Italian four-four finished fifth. In 1993 Pittino switched to the lightweight double scull and won the bronze medal at the World Championships together with Francesco Esposito . In 1994 and 1995 silver and bronze followed in the lightweight quadruple sculls, then Pittino won three gold medals in this boat class from 1996 to 1998.

In 1999 Pittino switched to a belt boat , namely the lightweight two-man without a helmsman, and won his fourth consecutive world title with Stefano Basalini . In 2000, Pittino and Basalini won the second regatta in the rowing world cup in the lightweight double scull in front of the second Italian boat with Elia Luini and Leonardo Pettinari , in the third world cup regatta Luini and Pettinari won, while Basalini and Pittino only finished fifth. The Italian federation then nominated Luini and Pettinari for the 2000 Olympic Games . Pittino ended his sporting career at the end of the season.

With a height of 1.74 meters, Pittino had a typical competition weight of around 70 kilograms for lightweights .
