Johannes Fröhlinger (born June 9, 1985 in Gerolstein ) is a former German cyclist .
Athletic career
In 2006 Fröhlinger won the overall ranking of the Alsace tour and was sixth overall on the 3-country tour . He then received a contract with UCI ProTeam Gerolsteiner for the 2007 and 2008 seasons . In 2009 and 2010 he drove for Team Milram . In this early part of his professional career, he narrowly missed victories in UCI ProTour races: At the Giro d'Italia 2008 he was second on the day, at the Tour de France 2009 he was once third in the stage.
Then Fröhlinger drove with Skil-Shimano from 2011 (later, among others, Team Sunweb ). Fröhlinger, who did 15 Grand Tours during his career , of which he completed 14, developed into a reliable helper and solid mountain driver , who in particular became the extended arm of the team management ( captain de la route ) and contact person for the young drivers. Among other things, he is credited with the fact that his team-mate Wilco Kelderman finished fourth at the Vuelta a España 2017 .
Fröhlinger ended his career at the end of the 2019 season after the Sunweb team no longer offered him a new contract for 2020 and talks with other teams were unsuccessful. He announced that he wanted to start training as a coach and stay connected to cycling.
