Michel Koch (born October 15, 1991 in Wuppertal ) is a former German track and road cyclist .

career

In his youth, Michel Koch was a member of RV final spurt 08 Wuppertal . After the 2006 season he moved to RSC Cottbus. In 2007, he finished third in the points race at the German youth track championships . In 2009 he won a stage at the Cup of Grudziadz Town President in the junior class , was German champion in the individual time trial and on the track in the team pursuit . He also finished ninth in the road race at the European Championship and seventh in the individual time trial at the World Championship.

Between 2010 and 2012, Koch drove for the LKT Team Brandenburg . In his first year there, he finished second in the road race and in the individual time trial at the German championship in the U23 class. In 2012 he was again German champion in the team pursuit, this time in the elite class, together with Henning Bommel , Kersten Thiele and Yuriy Vasyliv . He also won the overall ranking of the cycling Bundesliga .

For the 2013 season, Koch moved to the Italian UCI ProTeam Cannondale Pro Cycling . He achieved his first top ten placements in a World Tour race in the two individual time trials of the Tour de Suisse 2013 . He contested his first Grand Tour with the Giro d'Italia in 2014 and finished the race in 152nd place overall. After his team's main sponsor, Cannondale , ended his involvement with Koch's Italian team at the end of the season, he signed a contract with the German Rad-net Rose team .

family

Michel Koch comes from a cycling enthusiast family. Both his grandfather and his parents were active cyclists. 1985 his mother Petra Stegherr became 14th of the Grande Boucle Féminine . His sister Franziska, who is ten years younger than him, has also been active as a cyclist.
