Otto Schenk (cyclist)

Otto Schenk (* in Schweinfurt ) is a former German cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Otto Schenk was already active as a cyclist before the Second World War , he found his way to cycling in 1934 and became a member of the RV 1889 Schweinfurt association. In 1936 he took part in the qualification for the Olympic Games and took second place with his club in the championship race in the team time trial. In 1937 he won around Frankfurt . In 1939 he was second in the race around the Hainleite behind Werner Schiffner (who later became the coach of the GDR national team ). In 1942 he switched to the professional driver camp. He lost an eye in World War II , but continued racing after his return from captivity.

In 1947 Otto Schenk took a second stage position twice at the Green Belt from the Rhine , a predecessor of the Germany Tour , and came fourth overall. In 1948 he became German road racing champion . 1948 and 1949 again took a second stage position in the Tour of Germany . In 1950 he took third place in the overall ranking of the Tour of Germany .
