The Deutschland Tour , a predecessor of the later Deutschland Tour , took place from August 12 to 31, 1950 . It led from Hanover over 3,863.3 kilometers back to Hanover. There were three rest days in 18 stages.
There were 60 drivers, including 17 foreign ones, in seven factory teams or as individual drivers. The teams started:
- Farmer
- Bismarck
- Dürkopp
- express
- Heidemann
- Patria-WKC
- Rabeneick
40 starters reached the finish line, with the winner covering the distance at an hourly average of 34.730 km / h.
The Bundespost issued a special postage stamp for the tour. It was the first in Germany for a road bike race.
Because the international cycling association UCI had accepted and accepted the western part of Germany as a full member, German racing drivers were again allowed to participate in international races. In addition, international drivers were allowed to compete in races in Germany. The seven teams hired a total of 17 drivers. In the end, the Belgian Roger Gyselinck was the first foreign driver to secure the all-white jersey and thus overall victory. Désiré Keteleer completed the Belgian triumph with his victory at the Bergpreis.
