The 11th Deutschland Tour was a stage race in road cycling . It took place from 23 to 26 August 2018. The competition was part of the UCI Europe Tour 2018 and classified there in UCI category 2.1.

Overall winner was the Slovenian Matej Mohorič from the Bahrain-Merida team , ahead of the Germans Nils Politt ( Katusha Alpecin ) and Maximilian Schachmann ( Quick-Step Floors ), who were six and twelve seconds behind. Mohorič also won the points classification and the junior competition. The US American Robin Carpenter ( Rally Cycling ) won the mountain classification .

Schachmann's teammate Álvaro Hodeg (Colombia) won the first stage in the mass sprint, ahead of German road champion Pascal Ackermann . Schachmann took the lead with the sprint victory of a four-man breakaway group on the second stage. He was followed by Mohorič who won the sprint of a larger front field on the third stage. Politt won the final stage in the sprint of a group of 15.

After a ten-year break after the Germany Tour 2008 , the tour was initially designed for four days. The organizer was the Amaury Sport Organization (ASO), which also organizes the Tour de France and other major races. The OSA has signed an agreement with the Association of German Cyclists for ten years in which the tour is to be extended to one week. Under the Germany brand . Your tour. ASO wanted to break new ground in developing the event. The fans were able to contribute ideas for route planning and the supporting program on an internet platform.

The starting point of the Germany tour was Koblenz , the destination was Stuttgart . In February 2018, Bonn, Trier, Merzig, Lorsch and Stuttgart were announced as stage locations. Details of the route were presented on March 2, 2018.

Teams and drivers

131 drivers in 22 teams of 6 participants each - with the exception of Team Sunweb, who started with 5 drivers - took part in the tour. World Tour Teams, Professional Continental Teams, Continental Teams and National Teams were eligible to compete in the UCI Category 2.1 races. The starters included four German UCI Continental teams . The two best-placed teams in the rankings of the UCI Europe Tour 2018 and the Rad-Bundesliga qualified on July 2nd, 2018.
