The International Afri-Cola Germany Tour is a bike race and the predecessor of the later Germany Tour . It was held from April 29 to May 5, 1960 and led from Cologne over 1,522 kilometers back to Cologne. The tour was held in seven stages.
There were 47 drivers in eight German company teams with an international line-up. 43 starters reached the finish line, with the winner covering the distance with an hourly average of 37.890 km / h.
After the tour did not take place again between 1956 and 1959, the Bund Deutscher Radfahrer (Association of German Cyclists), together with the Afri-Cola -Werke and other German companies that had remembered the advertising effectiveness of previous tours in Germany, started a new attempt at a prestigious tour in Germany to establish. The young German drivers Hennes Junkermann , Rudi Altig and Rolf Wolfshohl , who had attracted international attention, also aroused the interest of the German public.
However, none of the young Germans won the tour with the Dutchman Ab Geldermans . Klaus Bugdahl finished the tour in third place as the best German.
