The International Tour of Germany , a predecessor of today's Germany Tour , was held from June 6 to 20, 1937 . After a six-year break, a cycle stage race across Germany took place again. It led from Berlin over 3,182 kilometers back to Berlin. There were three rest days for twelve stages.

60 drivers from 15 teams started. Including eight German works and seven international national teams. The goal was reached by 28 starters, with the winner covering the distance with an hourly average of 32.857 km / h.

After the six-year break from the tour, there was great interest from German industry and the public. In addition to the eight sponsors of the works teams ( Adler , Diamant , Dürkopp , Express, Phenomen , Presto, Victoria , Wanderer ), the BZ reported regularly at noon . Allegedly over 14 million people lined the streets on the twelve stages. The grand finale in the Berlin Olympic Stadium was watched by 80,000 people.

Otto Weckerling , who won on the first stage, did not give up his jersey until the end of the tour.
