The Deutschland Tour , a predecessor of the later Deutschland Tour , was held from July 21 to August 4, 1951 . It led from Hanover over 3,155 kilometers back to Hanover. There was a day of rest at 16 stages.

There were 54 drivers in six works and three national teams at the start. The goal was reached by 33 starters, with the winner covering the distance with an hourly average of 33.854 km / h.

For the first time, there were two individual time trials over a total of 129 kilometers on the tour . There the future overall winner Guido De Santi from Italy laid the foundation stone for his Tour victory. He was just over three minutes ahead of Fritz Schär from Switzerland . It was a disaster for the German drivers. Matthias Pfannenmüller finished the tour as the best German in seventh place, over 26 minutes behind. Belgian driver Edward Peeters secured the mountain classification . Last year's winner Roger Gyselinck had to be content with sixth place in the overall ranking.
