The Germany tour , a forerunner of today's Germany tour , was a cycling - stage race and was from 4 to May 21st 1930 discharged. It led from Berlin over 2,513 kilometers back to Berlin. There were twelve rest days for ten stages.
There were 64 drivers from five teams at the start. The finish was reached by 51 starters, 49 of them Germans and two Austrians, whereby the winner covered the distance with an hourly average of 30.801 km / h.
Thanks to the organizer Hermann Schwartz, head of advertising at Opel , five companies ( Mifa , Brennabor , Opel, Dürkopp , Diamant ) were found who invested in the tour and thus made it possible.
There were driver classes I (elite driver) and II (material driver). These groups could be regrouped at will during the tour, depending on the service provided. The expenses and premiums depended on the grouping.
In addition, the racers were not allowed to change their machine during the stage, but could start the next stage with a new bike , albeit with the tires used in the first stage. If a rider was eliminated in the first 100 kilometers of a stage due to machine damage (broken frame, broken rim, broken fork), he suffered a loss of 90 minutes. If he dropped out after more than 100 kilometers, his time account was charged with 60 minutes. The load was based on the stage winner's time. Many drivers benefited from this regulation. Especially on bad weather stages, such as the third and fourth, on which the drivers also had to struggle with catastrophic road conditions, favorites also had to give up, also because the tire supply was exhausted. But they kept their chance of a good placement in the overall standings.
For the first time since the introduction of the tour , the overall winner could not achieve a stage win.
