The International Tour of Germany , a predecessor of today's Germany tour , was a cycling - stage race and was held from June 9 to 25 1938th It led from Berlin over 3,794.6 kilometers back to Berlin. There were two rest days for 15 stages.

62 drivers from twelve teams started. Including eight German works and four international national teams. The goal was reached by 35 starters, with the winner covering the distance with an hourly average of 34.882 km / h.

Hermann Schild laid the foundation for his overall victory on the eleventh stage, which led over 300 km from Cologne to Bielefeld . On his solo ride, he distanced Hermann Siebelhof from second place by more than seven minutes and Heinz Wengler from third place by over 36 minutes. In the end he won the undisputed 38:23 minutes ahead. For the overall victory, a bonus of 600 Reichsmark each was offered by the Deutsche Verlag and the BZ am Mittag . The winner also received an Adler motorcycle . The stage winners each received 100 Reichsmarks from Fichtel & Sachs .
