The Tour of Germany , a predecessor of the later Germany Tour , took place from June 5 to 12, 1955 . It led from Kassel over 1,574 kilometers to Frankfurt am Main . The tour was held in eight stages.

There were 35 drivers in five German works teams with exclusively German drivers at the start. 21 starters reached the finish line, with the winner covering the distance at an hourly average of 34.892 km / h.

The leader of the tour wore a green jersey. As in the last edition of the tour three years ago, the stages were named after sponsors. In addition, for the first time there was a kind of advertising column that was also supported by moped drivers and, in addition to the mountain classification, a sprint classification for the first time. They drove over the route with a lead of about 20 minutes on the cyclists. In the destinations of the stages, with the exception of Wiesbaden , races for amateurs over 60 to 180 kilometers and for young people between the ages of 14 and 18 were held.

Because only German drivers started, there was a German winner for the first time since 1949. Rudi Theissen secured the lead in the overall standings with a victory on the first stage. Theissen was also ahead in the sprint classification. The mountain classification won Hans Preiskeit .
