The 6th Germany Tour took place from May 31 to June 6, 2004 . It led from Karlsruhe over 1,095.7 kilometers to Leipzig with a finish in St. Anton am Arlberg and a journey through Czech Bohemia . 158 drivers from 16 professional teams started, 108 of them reached the finish.
Due to a change of sponsor, the leader's jersey was no longer white, but yellow again , as in 1939 . In addition, the tour started for the first time since its reintroduction with an individual time trial over 23.7 kilometers.
course
Michael Rich decided the start of the tour for himself ahead of Jan Ullrich and Uwe Peschel . The top ten drivers included seven Germans. Also on the second stage, which Tom Boonen won in the sprint, Rich kept the yellow jersey. On the third stage, which led through the Alps and ended in St. Anton , Patrik Sinkewitz took the lead after he and Francisco Mancebo had reached the home straight and won the sprint. Two flat stages followed, which Sébastien Hinault and Allan Davis were able to win. Mancebo then won the royal stage through the Ore Mountains to Oberwiesenthal . Since Sinkewitz crossed the finish line together with Mancebo, his overall lead was not in danger. Jens Voigt , who crossed the finish line with the duo, took second place in the overall standings, while Ullrich slipped off the podium. The final stage again won Boonen.
