The Green Belt from the Rhine was a cycling event, a predecessor of the later tour of Germany and was from 20 to 25 August 1947 in the British-occupied zone discharged. It was the first attempt at a nationwide event since the Greater Germany Tour in 1939 .

Before the start of the tour, the organizer of the tours before the start of the war, Herrmann Schwartz , founded the IRA (Industrial Association for the Promotion of Cycling and Cycling) with the help of which he established a series of six criteria in the form of circuit races in the British-occupied zone called.

The leader after the stages no longer received the yellow jersey introduced before the war, but had to be content with a green armband. At the end of the tour, the overall winner received the Green Ribbon from the Rhine in the form of a sash .

In the end, Erich Bautz , who had already celebrated stage wins in previous editions, won the coveted overall victory. He won the armband of the leader in his victory in Düsseldorf . Fritz Diederichs and Rudolf Voigt followed just behind him in the overall standings .

The following year the IRA Green Belt was held in 1948 , where the program was expanded to include long-distance stages.
