Damiano Caruso (born October 12, 1987 in Ragusa ) is an Italian racing cyclist .

Athletic career

Damiano Caruso won a stage in the junior round trip Tre Ciclistica Bresciana in 2005 and was able to win the overall ranking. In the 2008 season he was the Italian champion in road racing in the U23 class. In 2009 he won a stage of the Giro Ciclistico d'Italia . He then received his first contract with an international cycling team with the Professional Continental Team De Rosa-Stac Plastic .

From 2011 he rode with the ProTeam Liquigas-Cannondale , which was merged into the Cannondale Pro Cycling Team in 2013 . He won a stage of the Settimana Internazionale in 2013 .

From 2015 to 2018 Caruso drove for the BMC Racing Team , with whom he was particularly successful in team time trials of stage races , for example in 2015 and 2018 in the Tour de France , three times (2016, 2017 and 2018) in Tirreno-Adriatico and Vuelta a España 2017 at the Vuelta a España . At the UCI Road World Championships in 2018 , he and his team won bronze in the team time trial.

Up to and including 2019, Caruso competed twelve times in major country tours , and twice finished in the top ten. At the Vuelta a España 2014 he was ninth, at the Giro d'Italia 2015 eighth.
