Reinhold Steinhilb

Reinhold Steinhilb (born February 26, 1926 in Stuttgart , † August 7, 2005 in Stuttgart) was a German racing cyclist , cycling trainer and official.

Reinhold Steinhilb was already active as a cyclist as a teenager and won local races in his age group, on the road and on the track . Several times he was Württemberg champion. In 1943 he joined the 1st RV Stuttgardia Stuttgart in 1886 and started as a teenager with a special permit in the amateur class. The Second World War interrupted his sporting career, but in 1946 he again took part in the first post-war races. In 1947 he became a professional .

In 1948 Steinhilb was part of the field of participants in the IRA's Green Belt , a forerunner event of the Tour of Germany , took third place in one stage and was 18th overall. In 1949 he took part in this race again, won a stage and came third in the final. In the same year he won the one-day race around Berlin . In the Tour of Germany in 1950 , he was fourth overall. Also in 1950 he was leading the individual race at the German Road Cycling Championships , when a defect stopped him 400 meters from the finish and he had to finish the race on foot. In 1951 he started at the world championships in cyclo-cross races in Luxembourg.

In the 1952 Tour of Germany , Reinhold Steinhilb was in sixth place in the overall standings when he fell during the fourth stage and suffered serious injuries. He then ended his active career.

In the following years Steinhilb was involved in numerous voluntary sports posts. From 1950 to 1956 he worked as a coach in his club; from 1957 to 1970 he was its chairman, but also in the years after that he remained active in various association offices. From 1947 he also organized cycling races. He has received numerous awards for his commitment, most recently he was named a “sports pioneer” in 1994 by the city of Stuttgart.
